Get your pencil ready to write Gingersnap spice. This one is full of merlot layers.  Garden fresh strawberries, cherries, black cassis and asian tea leaves.  You might even get a hint of black licorice.  This is fresh and complex with soft tannins.  Drink it slowly.  You can almost smell the harvest.  Don’t you think this Spofford Station Estate Merlot will go delightfully with grilled ahi tuna?

This is another great Syrah from Forgotten Hills vineyard.  This garnet colored wine opens with earthy Rhone style aromas.  The Spicy palate is familiar but elusive in its complexity.  Cherry cola and Spice ride the flavors to a loooonng and truly enjoyable finish.  Hold a good syrah in your mouth 20 seconds.

HARVESTED:   10-3-03
BRIX: 26.9  Ph: 3.87 TA: .39
ALCOHOL: 14.5%

Tasting Notes:
The Palette is our recognition of the 3 stages of our Winery the palate of the gastronomic senses, the palette of the artistic color senses and the pallet hoisted with a forklift.  This Bordeaux style blend starts with a tart nose but heads to mountain blackberries, red plum, red cherry and aromas of milk chocolate.  You will notice silk stocking legs on the glass and a rich, ruby color…like a rhubarb pie.  The tart acidic limestone of the earth and the tannic black of cherries makes this wine a dry aperitif stimulator.  It is a great prelude to your meal or snack.  Not overly oaked, this Palette of Spofford station Vineyard, is just plain good with food!

  2003 Cabernet Sauvignon

ALCOHOL:  14.9%
Aged: 22 months in French and American Oak (20% New Oak)
Retail Price: $28/ Bottle

Tasting Notes:
Black Cherry, raspberry and a hint of mint on the nose.  This is a full-bodied, complex and lush wine.  Fruits explode with ginger and pomegranate, finishing with a strong backbone.  This wine shows surprisingly well for a youthful Cabernet, yet definitely is an ageable wine.  Pair with well seasoned meats or simply revel in the flavors as your beverage of choice.

While the 2004 winter has given us some challenges in terms of quantity of Walla Walla fruit available, Spofford Station has been one of a few vineyards to actually have some fruit available for JLC Winery.  The demand is expected to be strong.  So don’t wait on those orders.  The vines were not damaged therefore it is expected that the 2005s will be back full strength in flavor and quality.
Meanwhile, JLC procured some excellent Columbia Valley fruit to fill up the profile of those reds.  You can expect to see and taste the unmistakable  JLC profile of bold reds continue with a little help from the Cold Creek Vineyards, Lewis Vineyards and Canoe Ridge.
